Monday, April 3, 2017
At the April 3 dinner meeting the Fine Arts Club of Pasadena will hold its Annual Awards Program. The winners of the Performing Arts Award competition and the Visual Arts Award competition will be announced. An exhibition of work by the Visual Arts Award winner will take place during the reception before dinner, and a performance by the Performing Arts Award winner will be given after the main dinner course for the members and their guests. Please join us to celebrate these young and upcoming artists.

Members were treated to an outstanding presentation of 2D- and 3D-animations created by Hayk Manukyan. Mr. Manukyan’s work has been featured in films produced by many major studios. In addition to his professional work, Mr. Manukyan has created more than 80 Moolt Cartoons starring an Armenian family living in Glendale, CA. These cartoons have received more than 8 million views on You Tube and Mr. Manukyan’s You Tube channel has more than 15 thousand subscribers.

After the main dinner course, members and their guests heard mezzo soprano Katherine Beck from the USC Studio of Elizabeth Hynes, with her collaborative pianist Jasper Jimenez from the USC Studio of Alan Louis Smith. Ms. Beck has performed widely throughout the Los Angeles area, the Northeastern US, and in Salzburg, Austria, in operatic, art song, and oratorio repertoire. Mr. Jimenez is currently a doctoral student at the Thornton School of Music at USC where he has earned the reputation as a dynamic collaborator and an effective vocal coach.

The Fine Arts Club Annual Holiday Dinner Meeting
Performing Arts Program: The Mayfield Senior Women’s Ensemble of Mayfield Senior School

The Mayfield Senior Women’s Ensemble, under the direction of Andrew Alvarez, performed a special selection of traditional and contemporary songs for the Christmas Holiday Program. The Mayfield Senior Women’s Ensemble has won numerous competitions including the 2015 San Francisco Heritage Music Festival and the 2016 Festival of Gold in Washington, D.C. The Mayfield Senior Women’s Ensemble is part of the UC-accredited Mayfield Senior School’s Conservatory for the Arts, which is itself School curriculum.

On Monday, February 6, 2017, at the Athenaeum of Caltech, members and guests of the Fine Arts Club of Pasadena were treated to an exhibit of the art of Cheryl Kline. Cheryl is a Southern California painter and the author of the book “A Treatise on Portrait Painting”.  She is also the founder and owner of the Kline Academy of Fine Art in West Los Angeles. Following dinner, a performance by the Colburn Quartet, consisting of outstanding students from the Colburn Conservatory of Music, featured works by Ravel, Mendelssohn, Mozart, and Dvorak. Elizabeth Hynes of the Thornton School of Music of USC was the guest of honor at this dinner meeting, where she was inducted as a Lifetime Honorary Member of The Fine Arts Club of Pasadena.
